I started teaching in 2003.  I knew I wanted to go into education when I began teaching trumpet lessons during high school.  My high school band director instilled the love of music, teamwork and perseverance and I also wanted share this gift that was given to me.  Music education allows students an avenue of expression in an climate of standardized everything. A student making music experiences the simultaneous engagement of senses, muscles, and intellect.  I choose this avenue to allow students the opportunity to achieve where they may have not otherwise had a chance.  

Outside of the Classroom:
In addition to my teaching duties I am involved in directing the Richmond Marching Band.

Outside of Richmond, I am involved in the Michigan Schools and Band Association and Michigan Schools Vocal Music Association and still play my trumpet whenever I can.

I grew up in New Baltimore, MI and graduated from Anchor Bay High School where I was drum major of the marching band and captain of the Cross Country and Track teams. While at MSU for my bachelors degree I was trumpet section leader in the Spartan Marching Band and also played in the university’s top band and sang in the Women's Glee Club. I then went on to teach all facets of music education including band, choir and general music at Hazel Park Schools and Anchor Bay before finally gaining employment with Richmond Community Schools.

I have ran 14 marathons, including 2 ultra marathons.  In my free time, I love spending time with my family, including my husband and two daughters.  We love camping, hiking, biking and running!
