Personal Curriculum (PC) Checklist

Step 1: School personnel, parents, students (age 18 or older), or emancipated students may request a Personal Curriculum.

Step 2: The Personal Curriculum Team, which consists of the student, parent, administrator, counselor, and current teacher(s) or content expert, meets to discuss a plan a Personal Curriculum. If the student is receiving Special Education or English Learner (EL) services, then the Director of Student Support Services must be a member of the PC Team.  The MISD Personal Curriculum tool to develop performance goals for modified content is available at www.misd.net.

Step 3: The Personal Curriculum Team follows the Personal Curriculum Tool online. If you do not have the Personal Curriculum Tool downloaded on your computer, go to https://www.misd.net/mt/personalcurriculum.html

Step 4: Once the Personal Curriculum Team has completed the online Personal Curriculum Tool, print a copy of the qualifying Personal Curriculum document. All members of the Personal Curriculum Team must sign the Personal Curriculum Document.

Step 5: The Building Administrators must send the Personal Curriculum document, signed by the entire Personal Curriculum Team, to the Director of Curriculum and Educational Services. Once the Director of Curriculum and Educational Services signs the Personal Curriculum document on behalf of the Superintendent, he will forward a PDF copy of the Personal Curriculum document to the members of the Personal Curriculum Team. It is the responsibility of the Building Administrator to provide the student and/or parents a copy of the Personal Curriculum Document with all signatures.

Step 6: Once the Building Administrator receives the final signed Personal Curriculum document, one copy must be placed in the the student's CA-60.

Step 7: Building Administration enters the information into PowerSchool.

Directions for entering information into PowerSchool:

Type in the student's name, once the student's information appears on the screen, select the State/Province tab on the right.

This will bring up the general screen, scroll down and check the PC box.

Another screen will appear.

You will need to make 2 choices:

1. Check which credit area is being modified.

2. Check reason the PC is needed: IEP, Transfer, General Enhanced, General Modified.

Step 8: PC is implemented.

Step 9:
Quarterly communication by the counselor to the parent about the modified content area is required. Documentation of quarterly communications must be entered into PowerSchool. If revisions to the PC are needed, the PC team reconvenes to make appropriate changes. Process begins from step 2.

Step 10: Student may be awarded a diploma if all requirements are met.
